SISTAS Ministry Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization geared towards helping underprivileged women and children and those living in the presence of domestic violence. The members of our ministry are dedicated to upholding the tenets of Titus 2:3-5. As a group, we believe that it is very important for the older, wiser women to share their knowledge with the young women of today to make a better tomorrow.
We are a group of women, from different churches, serving the same God. We come from different walks in our lives however, we have the same goals and interest in assisting Single Mothers and their children and reaching out to our communities and sharing the Word of God with all we encounter.
Our desire is to team up with other ministries, agencies, volunteers and support partners; who seek to make a difference in the communities while making an impact in Kingdom building.
An advocate for women, providing solid biblical teaching and supportive personal relationships to the less fortunate, while facing the challenges of godly living in today's society.
As a ministry of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship by Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, supporting all women as we say yes to the call.
The organization was orchestrated and designed by God in the year of 2000.
The Ministry started out as a Bible Study for women but God is showing out and showing the world the great plans He thinks toward us. Jeremiah 29:11.
SISTAS was originated and orchestrated by God and planted in the spirit of Dorothy Beard in 2000. "Women's Bible Study." In August 2001 she was awakened by God with the acronym SISTAS Three months later, she was given the meaning of the acronyms which is, "Sisters Into Submission to The Almighty Savior." Our first bible study was held October 2002 and this was just the beginning.
We do what we do because we share the founders vision and passion that she has for sexually abused and battered women and children. She grew up seeing this type of behavior in her family. As a victim of domestic violence herself, she developed a passion and understanding of what the women and children might be faced with.
I'm just an ordinary woman trying to help other ordinary women and children.
I was born August 28, 1952. My family was small, two brothers and myself. I remember my mothers struggles and some were very brutal. Even in her struggles my mother was a proud women and she always demonstrated to my brothers and me that if we wanted anything out of life we would have to work for it.
Fast forward to 1967. My life took a 360 degree turn. I found myself sixteen and pregnant. I felt lost, abandoned and alone. At the age of 18, I ended up in a very unhappy marriage and the mother of two daughters. The marriage ended in less than three years and at the age of 21, I decided by the grace of my God it was time to take control of my life. It was at this time of my life that I developed a passion for scorned battered women and their children. But it took years and faith in God to finally step out and walk in this calling.
Why am I sharing this, why am I opening my heart and life for the world to see? Why? I want a young mother, a middle age mother even a Sr. mother to know there is life after the storm! You may have been scorned, battered and torn, I need you to know BUT GOD! He can change your situation, re-arrange your life style and even move you to new location if necessary. Don't let your past determine your future.
My faith in God and my determination has never wavered; therefore, I know my mission to reach out and help battered women and children as well as the community at large will never end as long as I have life.
I am now married, and my children are adults and responsible for their own families. With the continued support of my family, friends and God's grace I look forward to continue fulfilling my dream of supporting women and children in domestic violence situations.
My life time Scripture is Romans 8:28, because it's true!
TGBTG and Blessings To All!
