SISTAS was originated and orchestrated by God and planted in the spirit of Evangelist Dorothy Beard, in the year of 2000. August 19 2001, she was awakened by God at 3:00 a.m. He dropped in her spirit the acronyms for the name of this ministry (SISTAS). Three months later in the month of November, 2001, God presented to her the words for the acronyms, “Sisters into Submission to the Almighty Savior”. It was not until 2002; the Holy Spirit once again prompted her to get the ministry started. So, she stepped out on faith and began to do what God had commissioned her to do. In June, 2002, her youngest daughter Shenica and her grandson Joshua walked the neighborhood for two consecutive weeks, passing out flyers inviting women to Bible Study. SISTAS held their first Bible Study October 5, 2002 at the Oak Cliff YMCA on South Hampton and meetings and monthly Bible Studies at the Center for Nonprofit Management, 2900 Live Oak Street, Dallas, TX 75204 until June of this year 2016.
The ministry has soared from Bible Study to giving out care baskets; sponsoring mothers and their children in shelters, conducting conferences, providing speakers, and vacation Bible school. 2004 was a great year for the SISTAS ministry for we dedicated the ministry back to the Lord and in that same year we received our Certificate of Incorporation entitling the ministry to be recognized, by the State of Texas as 501(c) (3), Tax Exempt Non-Profit Organization. All donations made to the ministry are tax deductible. In May of 2004 SISTAS adopted a room in a shelter for battered and sexually molested women and children at Brighter Tomorrows in Irving, TX. We provide clothing for the family occupying the room and any furniture and maintenance the room might need.
In 2005 SISTAS held their first “Women Conference” and God blessed us and the women that participated. God has blessed this ministry with a group of wonderful women and a dynamic staff that takes their positions serious.
In 2009 SISTAS kicked off the Families First Outreach Program. This program was put in place in order to help meet the needs of families in a more structured beneficial manner. We provide food, clothing, personal hygiene products and much more. In 2011 we were afforded the opportunity to minister to the residents as Mable Meshack a Senior Assistant Living Complex. As the years have gone by, we have continually helped those that sought us out for relief and done so as God would have us to do. In the year of 2016 SISTAS started a mentoring program and is at this time a work in process. We continually have our monthly Bible Studies, plan future Conferences and workshops and outreach projects. To this day, 2022, we continue to labor at seeking out women of all ages that are battered and abused, those that have given up hope of any change in what seems to be a dire situation in order to be a blessing to them. We give it our best effort to instill in them their worth and how much God loves them.
The best thing the ministry could have done was to dedicate the ministry back to God in 2004. We see it as giving back to God willingly and cheerfully what He has given to us. After all, it all started with Him. He is the Great I Am and the Initiator of all things. To God Be The Glory!
